Interdiction

In 2020, I played an integral part in the establishment of a specialized unit responsible for traffic enforcement, accident investigations, and warrant service and fugitive apprehensions across this county. This elite team has played an important role in keeping our roadways safer and holding offenders accountable.

When this team was established, they were placed under my command and supervision. I supported this team by helping to provide them with the technological tools that they need to get their job done efficiently and effectively. I also educated the members of this team on advanced tactics to safely locate and apprehend fugitives. I pushed them to be proactive every day. They were encouraged almost daily to be 1% better today than they were yesterday. Most importantly, I led them. I didn’t lead them from my office; I lead them by setting the standard that I expect of them. I explained to each member of this team on their first day in the unit that they would be held to an extremely high standard under my command.

Under my leadership, we will continue to utilize this team and build upon the strong framework that already exists. The deputies assigned to this team will continue to receive advanced training and we will expand their mission to include targeted criminal interdiction on county and city roadways.

To be clear: Crime in Wilson County does not live ONLY on interstates. Yes, there will be times we work the interstates, and we should.

But the citizens of this county deserve protection where you actually live, work and travel every day.

That Means:

• Secondary Roads

• County Corridors

• Neighborhood cut throughs

• Rural roadways

• High-crime travel routes inside our community

• And roads leading into this community from surrounding areas that act as a pipeline directly into our community, not just “passing through it”.

The roadways in this county are where drug traffickers move, where stolen firearms travel, where wanted offenders blend in and where enforcement has a REAL, DIRECT Impact on Public Safety.

This will not be random traffic stops. This will be intelligence driven enforcement using data, analysis, and coordination with local police, state, federal and regional partners to identify criminal patterns and disrupt them before crimes are committed.
