Fiscal Responsibility

A law enforcement budget is more than a fiscal document. It is a reflection of leadership, priorities and accountability. Every dollar must directly support public safety, deputy readiness, and responsible use of taxpayer resources.

I take very seriously the responsibility of being a good steward of taxpayer dollars. In nine (9) of the sixteen (16) years of my career, I have assisted in budget preparation for different divisions within the Wilson County Sheriff’s Office. Managing a 20-million-dollar budget takes discipline, planning, transparency, and leadership courage to say “no” when needed.

Every dollar this office receives must be spent wisely, with purpose and with transparency. To do this, a budget requires cooperation within the county government system.

I am committed to working efficiently with county management, county commissioners and the finance team to develop, prepare and maintain a budget that reflects both the needs of our agency and the service received by the citizens of this county.

As Sheriff, I will manage our budget with extreme discipline and accountability. That means prioritizing spending that directly improves public safety, training, technology and support for our personnel.

We will continue to look for smart solutions:

  • Continuing to leverage grants and partnerships.

  • Investing in programs, tools and technology that prevent crime before it happens and solve crimes that have happened.

  • Investing in programs that will help our most vulnerable citizens, young or old.

  • Making data-driven decisions based on research that produce positive results.

I believe taxpayers deserve to know where their money is going. That transparency builds trust, and trust strengthens this office and this community. Being tough on crime and responsible with tax dollars are not competing goals. They go hand in hand.

The Sheriff’s Office budget will be mission driven, transparent, and forward thinking; prioritizing people, public safety, and fiscal responsibility while ensuring every dollar strengthens trust, community protection, and accountability.
